NIT Srinagar Student Booked for Hurting Religious Sentiments

SRINAGAR: A student enrolled at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Hazratbal area of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir has been booked for hurting religious sentiments after posting a video clip on social media, Inspector General of Police V K Birdi said on Tuesday evening.

The top police officer, while speaking to the news agency KS, stated that they received information this evening that some students were protesting on the NIT Campus. Upon investigating, it was found that a student had posted a video clip on his social media, which was not his own but had been posted by a YouTuber, causing hurt sentiments, especially in the religious context.

“There was immediate intervention by the Registrar who educated the student on the matter. In the meantime, we received a communiqué from the Registrar urging for legal action,” the top police officer said.

“We have received the communiqué and have registered a case under relevant sections of the law. Investigations are underway,” he added. (KS)
