Pakistan’s chief selector Wahab Riaz has removed Salman Butt from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) selection committee after a massive backlash.

Butt was added to the selection committee, along with Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar Anjum, by Wahab. However, the chief selector’s was lambasted by former players and fans.

Butt was banned for his involvement in spot-fixing scandal in England. He apologized and also joined Singapore’s cricket team as a coach last year.

Wahab spoke about his stand in a press conference. “I am reverting my decision and I’ve already informed Salman Butt about my call.

I don’t want people to link us in any way,” he said.“Butt is no associated with PCB in any capacity..He is a good cricketer and understands the game. He was added to the panel for his opinion but some people and media started doing propoganda to ruin my image.”

Riaz said people were calling it nepotism and favours based on friendship.

He further said that the past should be burried and Butt had already paid for his mistakes.

“I think people should move forward in life instead of talking about the past.”
