Wildlife department rescues Ganderbal residents from bear threat

In response to escalating concerns over human-bear conflicts, the Wildlife Department swiftly intervened in the Giraj and Andrewan areas of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. Acting on local complaints, officials strategically deployed cages to capture three black bears that had ventured into residential zones.

The bears, drawn by the scarcity of food in upper forest areas, had been frequenting orchards to feast on leftover fruits, heightening the risk of dangerous encounters between humans and wildlife.

The captured bears are now destined for a safer habitat as they are set to be released into the Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary in Srinagar. This proactive measure aims to mitigate the potential threats posed by the bears, safeguarding both the local residents and the wildlife.
